Free Software ? What's the catch ?
There's no catch ! Freeware is often defined as : 'legally obtainable software that you may use at no cost, monetary or otherwise, for as long as you wish'.
The links at the foot of the page, which are in no particular order, lead to freeware download sites, many of which I've personally used. When I last checked, all the programs listed on them were genuine freeware, not shareware, trialware or any other kind of 'ware'. As always !

Always use a Virus checking program, such as Avast, on your computer !
This isn't strictly 'Freeware' but it's worth watching to see what's on offer.
Some of the freeware programs that I personally use.
Note that these are all Windows programs.
Avast Anti-virus
An excellent anti-virus program which is free of charge for non-commercial and home use.
Ad-Aware
An Anti-Malware program gives protection against spyware, trojans, hijackers, keyloggers, etc.
Spyware Terminator
Does exactly what it says on the tin . . . it removes any spyware that may be on your computer !
Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI)
Checks that installed programs are fully up to date with the latest patches, closing security threats that neither
an anti-virus program nor firewall can protect you from.
WinPatrol
Takes a snapshot of your system resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur.
AIMP2 Audio Player
A lightweight .mp3 player I use when I don't want to bother firing up my (paid for) PC Jukebox program.
VLC (VideoLAN Client) Media Player
An audio and video player (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs.
Moyea FLV Downloader
Downloads the .flv format videos from YouTube and similar sites to your computer.
M4a to .mp3 Audio Converter
Will also convert various other audio formats, such as AAC, .wav, M4a and MP4, to .mp3.
AoA Audio Extractor
Extracts the audio, sound or background music from video files to .mp3, .wav or .AC3 format.
Karen's Directory Printer
Print (or save as a .txt file) the filenames, and other information you might want, in any / all folders on your computer.

AMP Font Viewer
A font manager which allows you to view all fonts on your system and to install, uninstall or organize them into categories.
Yankee Clipper

Crimson Editor

PDF-XChange Viewer
An alternative to the Adobe .pdf reader which is smaller, faster and more feature rich.
Adobe PDF Reader
Required to read .pdf files (many people will already have this).

A backup program for drives and partitions. You can restore data to the same or a different drive.
Skype
Free unlimited worldwide voice or video calls to other Skype users. Cheaper calls to landline numbers.
Firefox Web Browser
The browser for discerning users which has lots of add-ons available.

Free search facility for your website.
Free CSS Templates
A selection of over 400 free templates, any of which can be used to create your own webpages.
