The 'Stellplatz' is the German equivalent of the French 'Aires de services'.
Germany is a very 'motorhome friendly' country, most areas have several stellplatz albeit some of these may only have 5 or 6 spaces. The Mosel probably has more than any other area, every village seems to have one.
The sign above is used to give directions or indicate authorised parking places.

Longuich, Mosel, Germany ~ Our favourite 'Stellplatze' is in Mr Feiten's vinyard. If you look (very) closely, you can see our motorhome, third from the right and flying a Saltire. The marquee was set up for a 'Sommerfest' held over the weekend and blocked our normal view of the river (shown below) for a couple of days.

This is the normal view from the pitch we were on. It's a great spot for watching the river traffic.

Neer, Limburg, Nederlands ~ A great stellplatze at the side of a jachthaven (marina) on the River Maas. The downside ? It's a maximum two night stay !

Bruckenhof Park, Julich, Germany ~ Another Stellplatze we have used for several years. It was upgraded a couple of years ago from the grass pitches (shown below) to hard standings with new electrics and a sanitation station.

Wolfhagen, Germany ~ Some stellplatze are simple overnight parking areas although this one has a limited (by numbers) supply of electricity.

Frasdorf, Germany ~ Sometimes they're not so good. The electricity supply on this one was a domestic extension lead under a plastic bucket.

Sulzemoos, Germany ~ This one is on the premises of a huge motorhome and caravan dealer, Der Freistaat. Free electricity if you're early enough.
